After an annular eclipsed captured Kodak DX4330 (3.1mp) digital Camera through a Vixen 11x80 binocular by Derek Rowley from Milton Keynes at Durness, North West Coast, Scotland on 31st May 2003. |
'Lovely solar eclipse was great sussed because of a lucky coincidence. Although the Sun was about 400 times larger than the Moon, it is also about 400 times farther away. From my point view at Durness, the Sun and the Moon seem to be the same size – but not always! And very proud what a great picture I took above!’ said Derek Rowley from Milton Keynes.
Over the weekend of 30 and 31 May, 1 June 2003, British Deaf Astronomical Association held their running trip to Durness from Glasgow Airport, picking a hire car. We visited the Ben Nevis, Loch Ness, Durness, Dounreay Exhibition Centre, John O’Groats, saw some seals relaxing at the tiding seas at Dornoch Firth, overnight at Perth then saw a Forth Road bridge & Forth Rail bridge nearby Edinburgh and visited the world’s first and only rotating boatlift called The Falkirk Wheel at Falkirk then on the way back to Glasgow Airport. It really is well worth a running trip by British Deaf Astronomical Association organised around the Scottish.
Our next BDAA running trip event on the weekend of September 26th / 27th and 28th 2003 where is the moonless at Sky Camp Party, Dower House Touring Park, East Harling, Thetford, Norfolk. Why not come along and bring the family just for the main event day on Saturday 27th September 2003 where the BCC See Hear! will be filmed. You will be the mostly welcome to stay for the weekend ~ Guided tours of the telescope field to see the many instruments being used, On-site bar & restaurant are open all day, in the evening the big prize raffle & BQQ. Let me know if you want to stay for the weekend with your caravan or tent is welcome (min. 2 night stay).
